CERN announced on September 17 the start of the disconnection of the focus magnets on both sides of the ATLAS and CMS experiments. These sets, called internal triplets, are used to tighten the beams before they collide in the detectors.\n\nThis operation takes place during the third long stop of the LHC. It prepares the replacement of parts of the accelerator with components for the High-Luminosity LHC, the improvement program aimed at increasing the number of collisions operable by the experiments.\n\nThe announcement describes the start of disassembly work and not the entry into service of the HiLumi LHC. The detailed schedule of the next phases will depend on the progress of this period of stopping and association of installations.
